Limassol Crusaders undone by Paphos Tigers

On a bright, sunny day a decent crowd watch an entertaining game at Limassol’s cosy ground.
The Limassol pack have beefed up over the past year and gave the Tigers pack a tough and, at times, torrid time during the afternoon. The larger home side pack had the edge in the loose for substantial periods but the Tigers lineout and scrums were sound and the Tigers backs were devastating when their pack managed to feed them quick clean ball.

The Tiger’s backs opened the score with a well worked back move which resulted in full back Gregg Mackey spectacularly slicing through to score near the posts for Marcus Holden to convert. The Tigers backs scored again straight from the kick off as Holden finished off a wonderful back line move instigated by fly half Des White. Crusaders pack went on the offence and sustained pressure resulted in a drive-over try for prop Chris Snaith, converted by Darryl Davies.
The second half saw a fitter Tigers side improve their lead through back line tries by Matt Lowe, Marcus Holden and George Agathocleous. The elusive fly-half Des White was usually the initiator of the Tigers’ back moves. To keep the pack happy the ever-present 'Deano' scored from a No 8 pickup and drive from a 5 yard scrum. Marcus Holden converted tries on a regular basis. Another good day for the Tigers travelling supporters.

The two teams slogged it out in the pouring rain with the larger and older Limassol side dominating. The Tigers fought for every scrap of ball and territory and did themselves proud but the outcome was inevitable.
The commitment of both sides was hugely evident and bodes well for the future of the game in Cyprus.
Thanks to all the supporters for turning out in such numbers and providing a great atmosphere.
