Paphos Tigers beat Episkopi Eagles
19th November 2007
by Andrew Hill
Last Saturday (17th November) the Paphos Tigers took on Episkopi Eagles at the Kiniras Sports Centre in Paphos.
As the first home league match of the season for the Tigers it was widely anticipated across Paphos. By 2.00pm the crowds had assembled and the teams prepared for a delayed 2.30pm kick-off.
The Tigers stuck to a game plan which saw some early kicking into dangerous areas and some great running rugby with excellent support play from forwards and backs alike.
An early score for the Tigers settled nerves after a promising start and the boys started to move through the gears. Excellent possession and territory were rewarded with several tries the most notable being Des White's solo run from close to the half way line.
The Eagles fought on and were rewarded in the second half with a line-out on the Tigers 5 metre line and a slightly disorganised defence allowed the Eagles to push over a try.

With the game far from over the Tigers started to move the ball again to underline their dominance on the day. With more tries flowing through the second half it was an excellent display. Notable performances were seen from Des White at fly-half who controlled the back-line excellently and from Chris Thoma at flank whose tireless running created space all over the pitch.
Final score was 70 - 7
It was however the hat-trick man George Agathocleos who picked up the man of the match award for his relentless, and sometimes brutally direct running which caused chaos in the opposition defence.
Thanks to all the supporters for turning out in such numbers and providing a great atmosphere.
