Promoting the Club

As all clubs know you have to get yourselves noticed and to do so we have done demonstration matches at the International School of Paphos at their Summer Fayre and will be doing again at the Xmas Fayre.
We are hoping to continue this and visit other schools at their fayres with the view to attract more interest in rugby and the club.

At our demonstration we start off with a mini’s tag match, followed by a tackle bag demonstration. Oh what torture for the kids!!! Having to launch themselves at a foam bag, feel it leave the ground and tackle it back to earth.

This is then usually followed by our Colts team doing a tackle bag demonstration and then playing a game of ‘touch’ rugby against parents and teachers. They end up playing a motley crew and with some creative refereeing, show the youngsters perhaps how it shouldn’t be done.
The idea behind the day is to have fun and enjoy the sport.
End of Year Presentation
At the end of last summer we held our first Mini’s Presentation. It is here that we can celebrate our achievements and award those players that have shown improvement and ability through the season. In June 2010 our presentation was held at Riccos Beach Taverna on Geriskipou Beach where the kids can let off steam on the beach while us oldies have a cool bevy in the shade.
There are three trophies donated, all by Barry Hatton, Club President:
From left to right:
Most Trys Scored in the season to Zak Droushiotis.
Most Improved Player awarded to Alex Panayi.
Players Player to Tom Kingsland.
Sam Blomfield was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for personally raising the most money for the Sponsored Walk of €433.
The awards were presented by Ron James who has now left the island to live in Austrailia. Ron founded the Paphos Tigers Mini’s in 2004 and will be greatly missed.
We Will Conquer the World
In December 2009 we started fund raising so we could go on tour. Initially it was to participate in the Junior Rugby Tournament in Cairo. Unfortunately, we didn’t raise enough.
However, we continued fund raising and now have enough to go on tour. We are hoping to take a team to England, visiting two teams, one in East Yorkshire and one in West Yorkshire in March 2011.
We will let you know how it went.
We have done a number of fundraising activities:
Sponsored Walk.
We walked 8 km from the Fort at Paphos Harbour to the freighter and back along the coast path. As you can see it was rather a blustery day but the torrential rain stopped just as we were about to set off and started just after we finished – How lucky was that!!
Carol Singing
Filled with festive spirit we donned our santa hats and filled the air with Yuletide carols. We went around a number of villages and sang outside Carrefor and Papantoniou supermarkets.
We will be doing this again this Christmas so look out for us – that’s if you don’t hear us first.
Bonfire Party
On the 6 November 2010 we had a Bonfire Party at Geriskipou Beach. Despite a few hiccups and unforeseen complications (the Fire Brigade were sent to put out our fire!! We did have permission and it all was sorted out) everyone seemed to enjoy it.
We are hoping to do the same next year and improve on this year’s fun.
Items to Purchase
Also to help raise funds we have towels (cream bath towels 100 x 150 cm with the Paphos Tiger head) at €15 each and a recipe book (not sure on the price of this yet) on sale.
The idea behind the recipe book is that everyone donated a favorite recipe and it is put together in a book, English at the front and Greek at the back. Hopefully this will be available before Christmas, but if not soon after.
If you are interested in purchasing either of these items please call Sally on 99326452.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported and helped us in our fundraising efforts. We have achieved such a lot this year and both the children, parents, helpers and our supporters should be applauded.
Thank you.
